At Multi Vehicle Technology, we specialise in the design and construction of bespoke trailers and custom-built vehicles for a broad range of industries, creating one-of-a-kind innovative mobile solutions for our clients. All our trailers are built to European Type Approval standards and come with Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) Certification. The quality of our trailers is assured via our ISO9001 Quality Management Certification, with confidentiality for sensitive projects guaranteed by our Cyber Essentials Certification. In addition, all electrical and gas installations are fitted by qualified engineers and subsequently independently tested and certified.

Types of bespoke trailers we create.

We build all types of towable trailers, ranging from the smaller single-axle chassis to double-axle and, where appropriate for the larger and heavier trailers, turntable-steer models. Hence, weights can range from an unbraked car-towable 750 kgs to the maximum permitted for most normal applications of 3500 kgs operating on overrun braking systems.

This range of chassis permits body lengths from as small as 2 metre saloon towable dimensions up to the maximum permitted length of 7 metres. For clarity, the “A” frame is excluded from these lengths.

The maximum width we can manufacture is subject to the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations which limit our bespoke trailers to a maximum of 2.55 metres. That said, we prefer to recommend widths between 2.3 and 2.4 metres for the convenience of the operator, although this does also depend on the towing vehicle. The reason being that if the trailer is wider than the towing vehicle it is essential for the vehicle to be fitted with extended mirrors, and this can become an issue.

Interestingly, UK Regulations differ from the EU when it comes to heights. Europe has a maximum height limit of 4 metres, whereas in the UK there is no such restriction. But one does have to be careful! Going unusually high can make a lightweight trailer quite unstable on the road and not something we would recommend. There is also the added issue that with so many low bridges on our roads unusually high trailers make journey planning an essential!

So far, we have mentioned the bespoke trailers that we build from scratch at MVTech. We should, however, briefly mention the larger articulated trailers (ranging in size between 10 and 13.6 metres) which we do not manufacture but can and do fit out, convert and refurbish for bespoke purposes.

Regulations do change, so for up-to-date information on permitted dimensions and weights, please call us on 0116326 0989 or visit the UK Government’s website, where you can also check up on driving licence entitlements.

The many uses for our bespoke trailers

Whilst we do have the skills and experience to design and construct bespoke trailers for commercial load carrying activities from car transporters, tippers, box vans, to refrigerated goods carriers, our reputation is based on our ability to create unique trailers for specialist purposes, including:

Design creativity is essential for bespoke trailers.

Our creative expertise lies in the ability of our design team to translate a client’s initial ideas into a practical, stylish, and cost-effective solution using CAD software, to generate photo-realistic 3D designs to illustrate how a proposed bespoke trailer will look and operate before the build even begins.

Custom-built design features

We do not restrict our trailers to being square boxes. Our custom-built trailers will often include stylish exterior features such as banner boards, swing-out display panels, hinge-down platforms and hydraulically operated canopies, wind-out awnings, pylons, and flagpoles. Access can be provided by steps, ramps, and access lifts such as those supplied by Passenger Lift Solutions.

We offer a range of access doors from single personnel doors to double-glazed doors and sliding patio doors.

Internal space can be increased by up to 50% through the incorporation of slide-out pods and gull-wing extensions, with private areas created through the inclusion of partitions. And we are not restricted to one level. We can provide bespoke trailers with either upper deck viewing balconies or fully enclosed upper decks.

Where more than one trailer is required, we can design them to link together, making them even more flexible in use and operation.

Furniture and seating are always custom-built with display panelling and IT technology (a speciality of ours) installed as required.

Décor colour schemes are customised to comply with corporate identity specifications.

About Multi Vehicle Technology Ltd

At MVTech, we do not just build bespoke trailers. We are also specialist vehicle converters with experience in building mobile libraries, security vehicles, rapid response vehicles, incident command vehicles, catering vehicles and even custom-built camper vans and day vans, plus many more.

All work is undertaken within our own factory with our own personnel, making us a one-stop shop from initial creative concept to custom build and the application of branding graphics.

Located in the historic city of Leicester, we are centrally located, and whilst small enough to provide a high level of service for those requiring a one-off custom build, we are large enough to manage fleet work, treating both with the same level of enthusiasm and commitment.

Bespoke trailers are often used for mobile retailing, and in this photo, we show a 7 metre trailer with entrance steps and a wheelchair ramp leading to an entrance door, which is open with a shop assistant standing in the entrance. The side of the trailer is fully glazed, and inside can be seen grocery shop shelving packed with snadwiches and drinks

And finally, for those fascinated with the English language (with thanks and acknowledgement to the assistance of a Google AI search!), you may find the following interesting!
“Bespoke” originates from the 16th-century verb “bespeak,” meaning “to speak for” or “arrange for” something beforehand, acting as the past participle for commissioning goods. It traditionally described custom-tailored clothing, signifying a dialogue between tailor and customer to create a unique garment.
Etymology: Derived from “bespeak” (to arrange/order), it dates to 1583, with the adjective “bespoke” (ordered/commissioned) appearing around 1607–1755.
Original Context: The term was strongly tied to Savile Row tailoring, where items were made to individual specifications rather than bought off-the-rack.
Evolution: While historically British, its use has expanded globally to mean any custom-made or personalised product, from furniture to software.
